This is a shop from 1893.
Many shops were general dealers. This means that they sold a bit of everything. The shop was open from early morning until late in the evening, but it was often sparse between customers. The retailers chose the plots along Storgatan, the high street, first. The residential houses were often moved in from the surrounding villages and placed with the facade facing the street. The shop was on the ground floor facing the street and the trader and the servants lived on the upper floor. In the back gardens there were stables, woodsheds, outhouses, and storage rooms, etc.
Since many customers came from far away, in carriages or sleighs, the trader also had rooms and stables at their disposal for overnight stays in the back garden.
