Music from the Fäbod

Fäbod music was created and improvised by the women who worked there. Music was a work tool.

What makes the biggest impression on us today is kulning, the herding call. Herd-calling can be heard over a long distance. With the high notes, they could help stray animals find their way home, make the predators back away from the livestock, and send messages to someone on the other side of the valley.

The call was not meant to be beautiful and friendly. It was powerful and free.
