The 1820 Farm

This is a kitchen from 1820.

The best light source people had, aside from daylight, was the fireplace in the kitchen. During the winter months, the kitchen was the room that was heated, which meant that it also functioned as a workroom. On this farm, flax handicrafts were an important source of income. To supplement your income, it was important to be a jack of all trades. In addition to keeping animals and growing grain, people worked in the forest, fished, hunted, specialised in handicrafts, and sold their wares at markets.
